The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture is located at 830 East Pratt Street, across the street from the Inner Harbor in downtown Baltimore. The museum opened on June 25th, 2005 and is dedicated to sharing the courageous journeys towards freedom and self-determination made by African American Marylanders. The museum leaders hope that it will be a place to remember struggles, celebrate accomplishments, and serve has a beacon of pride, hope and inspiration for all people. The museum has a Learning Resource Center where visitors can learn about the African American experience from the past to the present, both throughout Maryland and internationally. The museum has Oral History Recording & Listening Studio where visitors can listen to oral histories and stories by Maryland's famous and not-so-famous African Americans. It has a state of the art 200-Seat Theater that hosts a variety of events for the whole family, including film festivals, lectures, theatrical and musical performances. The museum has a Shop and Cafe that sells a variety of unique Maryland dishes, books, jewelry, music and special gift items.
