The African American Museum in Philadelphia

The African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) was established in 1976 as the Afro-American Historical and Cultural Museum in celebration of the nation's Bicentennial. The Museum was built to preserve, interpret and exhibit the heritage of African Americans. The museum is located at 701 Arch Street in downtown Philadelphia, PA.

Over the years, the museum has grown to include over 500,000 objects, images and documents. The museum houses four galleries, a auditorium and is anchored by the museum's three dominant themes - The African Diaspora, The Philadelphia Story, and the Contemporary Narrative. The auditorium is used for a learning program, for film viewing, and other community events.
