Lorenzo "Smitty" Smith
Coach

Lorenzo "Smitty" Smith has always looked at life with a fun filled attitude. Although he enjoys life, Smitty was all business when it came down to teaching kids the game of basketball. This included his son, Christopher (pictured). It was Smitty's love for children, his caring personality and his willingness to help others that led him to coaching.

In 1994, Smitty joined the volunteer staff of Kennedy Center, coaching basketball on Saturday mornings. He focused on the 10 - 12 year old division. Many a Saturday morning, Smitty could be seen involved in an intense practice session. His hard work paid off as his 10 - 12 team won the 1998 YMCA Jr. Knicks Championship as well as the 1998 Nike Swish Tournament.

In 1999, Smitty decided to concentrate on family. He currently resides in Charlotte, NC. Smitty states, "I have put my heart and soul into devoting time to the children of the Harlem community. I hope that I've made different in some child's life".
